River front rainforest acreage, timber home surrounded by privacy

Highset timber home on 1 ha of Johnstone River rainforest, 5 mins drive to Malanda. Covered verandas front and side plus a large back deck, overlooking a platypus playground.

Relocated from Cairns in 1999, the house was built in the 1950s – so that part of the home is 100% recycled. Beautiful polished Tulip Oak floors throughout (except dining room / kitchen needs polishing). There is potential to build in underneath and still fit 2 cars under the front. As well as a new tin roof, it was fully upgraded at that stage to meet cyclone standards.

In 2002 a registered builder put on the back extension with new bathroom and separate toilet and installed a large sky-light (middle of kitchen and dining areas). There is an open plan office between the bathroom/back deck and dining area.

Extension and decks are all Australian hardwood. No tropical rainforest timbers were used. The original dwelling had/still has no asbestos.

Our weed-free rainforest is low maintenance and the red-necked pademelons keep the grass down around the house – Ride-on mower not required.

Eight mins drive to Lake Eacham National Park but we’ve got it all here minus the crowds. Fabulous lifestyle; private swimming holes, fishing, kayaking, abundant wildlife including Lumholtz’s Tree-Kangaroos. Twenty mins to Lake Tinaroo to catch Barramundi and Red Claw.
